As investors, regulators, and consumers increasingly demand transparency in mineral supply chains, ESG and responsible sourcing have moved from voluntary aspirations to binding legal obligations. The EU's Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), Conflict Minerals Regulation, and Battery Regulation — combined with SEC disclosure requirements and growing ICMM and MAC frameworks — are reshaping how mining companies and downstream buyers operate.
This course provides a comprehensive overview of the ESG and compliance landscape for the minerals sector. Drawing on frameworks from the OECD, Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI), GRI, SASB/IFRS Foundation, ICMM, and EU regulatory bodies, students will develop practical skills in due diligence, reporting, and compliance strategy.

Module 2: OECD Due Diligence Guidance
The 5-step due diligence framework. Conflict minerals and high-risk sourcing areas. Implementation challenges and industry practice.
Module 3: Responsible Minerals Initiative & Third-Party Audit
RMAP audit standards (3TG and cobalt). Smelter/refiner qualification. How downstream companies use RMI data.
Module 4: GRI, SASB & IFRS Sustainability Reporting
GRI Mining & Metals sector standard. SASB Metals & Mining standard. IFRS S1 and S2 climate disclosure. Materiality assessment.
Module 5: EU Regulatory Frameworks
EU Conflict Minerals Regulation. Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). EU Battery Regulation due diligence requirements. Critical Raw Materials Act sustainability provisions.
Module 6: ICMM, MAC & Industry-Led Standards
